Data Management Plans
Most federal agency grant proposals must include data management plans. Each scientist is responsible for her/his own data plan.
Use the Cary Institute Data Management Plan template attached at the bottom of this page and modify as needed. A few example data plans are also attached. Or, try out the DMP Tool data management wizard.
Funding Agency Information:
National Science Foundation Data Sharing Policy. All NSF proposals must include a supplementary data management plan (DMP) of no more than 2 pages. The DMP should address how the proposal will follow NSF policy on management and sharing of research data. Make sure to check relevant directorate, office, program or other unit level guidance.
National Institutes of Health Data Management and Sharing Policy. On January 25, 2023, the new policy will come into effect and replace the 2003 NIH Data Sharing Policy. Until then, for applications with costs exceeding $500,000, a data sharing plan must be included.
